History & Origin

Developed in South Carolina in the early 1900s from a stray spaniel found near a church. Bred for hunting in the Wateree River Swamp, fitting in small boats and flushing turkeys and ducks. The state dog of South Carolina and relatively new to AKC recognition (2009).
